The Silk Road cooperation spirit, which is the essence of the China's proposed Belt and Road Initiative, should start from children, said a senior diplomat in Beijing on May 31.
Stanley Loh, the Singaporean ambassador to China, made the remark on the sideline of a grand Children's Day celebration drawing some 700 Chinese and foreign young people from the Belt and Road countries.
The Silk Road spirit should be cultivated from the very grass-root levels, especially among the children, women and social groups, said Loh.
"Children are our future, and they will shape the future. We have to take care of them and cultivate them. When they are well aware of peace and cooperation, our society will enjoy peace and prosperity," the ambassador underlined.
The half day event, themed "Dream of the Future Belt and Road Young Hearts," was organized by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and mainly featured children's singing, dancing, painting exhibition, robot performances as well as the experiencing of traditional Chinese culture.
Its aim was to promote communication between young people from countries along the Belt and Road, a major consensus reached at the latest Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, said the organizer.
