China's lawmakers and political advisers have called for a tough law to tackle the increasing number of foreigners illegally entering, living and working in China.

Bills and suggestions have been made during the two sessions, demanding enhanced supervision over visa agents and improvements to the repatriation mechanism.

China's has recently been piloting more flexible visa and immigration policies in Shanghai and Beijing to attract more foreigners with higher education and good career backgrounds.

But law experts say more attention needs to be paid to foreigners doing low-end jobs, and China's current immigration policies.

They say China should initiate a working visa quota for lower skilled jobs.

A national census in 2011 showed that about 600,000 foreigners were living in China.
