Public and volunteers from a Tianjin's charity gathered together yesterday to pay tribute to the victims and firefighters who died in Tianjin explosion on the night of Aug. 12.
At 7:00 p.m., Tianjin's Meet Together Through Love Volunteers Association organized more than 200 people to come to the riverside of Linchao Lake in Dagang, Binhai New District, Tianjin to hold a candle vigil for the victims of the blasts.
The catastrophic explosions in Tianjin Port on Aug. 12 took 114 lives, including 39 firefighters and five policemen, according to current statistics.
Volunteers sent their prayers to bless the souls of the dead, accompanied by solemn music. The vehicles turned on their headlights, and volunteers lit the candles which formed the shape of the Chinese characters of "Tanggu, Tianjin, August 12." After the candles were lit, people turned to face the direction of Tanggu, where the disaster happened, mourned in silence with white chrysanthemum in hands.
According to traditional customs, Chinese people mourn the deceased on the 7th day after they pass away. The country was mourning and offering their condolences on Tuesday.
