52 couples made up of Chinese and foreigners attended a group Han Dynasty (206BC-AD220) style wedding which took place at the Youyang Peach Blossom Land, in Chongqing during the Labor Day Festival on May 2, 2014. The ceremony is considered to be a quintessential Chinese rite.
The traditional Han wedding ceremony dates back to the Zhou Dynasty (1046-771 BC), and includes the rites of Woguan (washing hands with flowing water), Tonglao (eating one piece of meat), Hejin (drinking cross-cupped wine), Baitang (worship of heaven and earth) and Jiefa (knotting the hair up).
