The girl, Niu Lengning, who is in kindergarten, received 1,200 yuan (US$190) a day to stand beside a car. She said she agreed to be a model because she can make money for her mother while having fun. In response to questions about whether the work would harm the girl, her mother, Wu Lanlan, said it was a good way for the child to experience another way of life and discover her interests.
A year ago, pictures showing the girl working as a waitress in her aunt's restaurant were distributed widely on the Internet. Netizens deemed her the "youngest waitress in China".
