In the first half of this year, Beijing's industrial output of enterprises above the designated size grew 7.1% year on year, the fastest in six years.
This growth was driven largely by high-tech manufacturing and strategic emerging industries, according to the municipal commission of development and reform.
To keep up the momentum, the capital city is leveraging the synergy between its advanced manufacturing and modern service industries to promote integrated development. Beijing has identified eight key areas for the fusion of advanced manufacturing and modern services, and established a pilot demonstration system for this with six parks and 40 enterprises.
Beyond integration, industries in Beijing are also progressing toward smart technologies and sustainability. In the first half of the year, Beijing launched eight projects to renovate and upgrade low-efficiency spaces, including the pilot zone for basic data regulation in the city's sub-center, opening up high-quality industrial space. The recently approved renovation of the Wangjing Building in Chaoyang district will serve as a key component of the Zhongguancun Chaoyang Park and the Digital Economy Innovation Industry Corridor. Moreover, several industrial urban renewal projects, including the Haidian Jinyu Industrial and Biomedical projects, are planned to kick off in the second half of the year.
Feng Dan, a scholar with the Beijing Institute of Economic and Social Development, said Beijing should further deepen the integration of technological and industrial innovations, implement regulations to promote the application of scientific achievements, and give researchers more autonomy in distributing benefits.
