Chinese auto manufacturer BYD has sold the most electric cars, 9,033 units, in Israel over the first five months of 2024, according to data published by the Israel Vehicle Importers Association on Monday.
Bestselling BYD models in January-May are the subcompact crossover model Atto 3, the Dolphin hatchback, and the fastback sedan BYD Seal.
Also in the period, BYD ranked fourth in general auto sales in Israel, including gasoline and electric cars.
Next to BYD on the Israeli electric car sales list are the Chinese-owned Britain-based automaker MG Motor, selling 3,421 units, and Geely Auto Group, another Chinese automaker, which sold 2,432 Geometry C cars.
A total of 22,267 Chinese electric cars were sold in Israel between January and May, accounting for 69 percent of Israel's overall auto sales during the period.
Chinese brands also dominated Israel's list of passenger car sales, both gasoline and electric cars, in the first five months, with 28,410 units sold, followed by South Korea with 22,550 units, and Japan with 18,776 units.
