Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) announced on Wednesday that Carlson Tong Ka-shing will become its new chairman with immediate effect, serving the same term as the director of HKEX.
Tong was appointed chairman during HKEX's 2024 annual general meeting on Wednesday, subject to the written approval of the chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
Tong also served as a chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission.
He believed that HKEX is now in a changing operating environment with both challenges and opportunities. Although external factors such as geopolitics and interest rate changes are incontrollable, he said, it is a must to proactively grasp every opportunity in the future to further enrich the product ecosystem, strengthen infrastructure construction, and enhance market competitiveness.
HKEX is a Hong Kong-listed company and one of the world's leading international exchange groups, offering a range of equities, derivatives, commodities, fixed income products and other financial products and services, including the London Metal Exchange.
