As the Spring Festival travel rush comes to an end, it is expected that more than 8.4 billion interregional trips have been made in China during the period, data from the Ministry of Transport (MOT) showed on Tuesday.
The annual travel rush, which began on Jan. 26 and ends on Tuesday, is usually a period of high demand for transportation as people return home to reunite with their families.
By the end of Tuesday, it is estimated that the country has seen some 7.83 billion trips taken by road, 480 million by rail, 83 million by civil aviation and 29 million by water, the data showed.
An MOT official said that the nationwide transport system has been securing its transportation capacities and safety supervision procedures, and it has been dealing with bad weather and huge traffic flows to ensure the public can travel home safely, conveniently and comfortably.
