Chen Zhongshi (陳忠實), born in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, 1942, is a former vice chairman of the Chinese Writers Association. In 1965, he published his maiden essay "A night in Liusha River". In 1979 his short novel "Trust" won the National Excellent Short Novel Prize.
In 1982, Chen published his first novel collection "Village" and in 1992 his literary report "Weibei Plateau, a personal memoir" won the National Literary Report Award 1990/1991. His full-length novel "White Deer Plain" won the forth Mao Dun Literary Prize in 1998.
Thus far, Chen has published seven volumes of the "Chen Zhongshi Works, "three volumes of the "Chen Zhongshi Novel Collection" and seven essay collections -- including "The rain of life," "The pulse of the family" and "The collection under the plateau." Several of his works have been translated into English, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese.
