Starring Xiao Yang, Song Jia and Ni Dahong, Kang Bo's "Enjoy Yourself," tells the story of a couple — a lawyer and a doctor — who have lost their child and are in the middle of a divorce cooling-off period. As the plot thickens, they become involved in a case where a desperate elderly couple are trying to get ownership from the hospital of their grandson's frozen embryo after their son dies and their daughter-in-law is put into a vegetative state following a tragic accident.
Screenwriter You Xiaoying explained at the premiere held in Beijing on Sept. 9 that although the title of the film is "Enjoy Yourself," it doesn't imply that people will enjoy themselves after watching the film. Instead, she hoped that this film encourages more people to overcome their pains and move on.
Executive producer Yin Lu echoed these sentiments and also shared the journey of creating the film, expressing that every character in the movie is based on real-life individuals. Whether it's elderly parents who have lost their only child, middle-aged couples whose relationships have been shattered due to problems with their children or young couples facing immense pressure to conceive, they all exist in real life, stomaching unavoidable, genuine pain. "In pain, everyone is frozen, but we hope that those in the ruins can have the courage to face the pain and regrets of life, and also have the courage to move forward," she said.
Leading actor Xiao Yang said he found his character to be a typical middle-aged man who is alone and can't find a channel to release his stress and emotions." He is digging deeper, and this story is rooted deeply. This film offers no answers but rather presents things as they are. All of this will make some audience members who have similar life experiences no longer feel lonely."
"Enjoy Yourself" will be released nationwide on Sept. 15, the start of China's three-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period.
