Actor and singer Jacky Cheung will join Jiangsu Satellite TV's New Year's Eve gala on Dec 31, the broadcaster has announced.

It will mark the first time that the Hong Kong pop idol will perform on a mainland TV station's New Year's Eve special.

Dubbed the "God of Songs", the baritone will sing his latest hit, the theme from The Last Tycoon, a Hong Kong gang thriller that recently hit theaters.

According to the gala's director, Zhang Lingyan, Cheung will also collaborate with Olympic swimming champion Sun Yang in a special performance.

By 2006, Cheung had sold more than 120 million records, the most of any Chinese singer.
