Noted Chinese children's writer Zheng Yuanjie announced his withdrawal from the CWA on April 25 on his blog, saying he was disappointed with Cao Wenxuan, vice-chairman of the CWA, and ashamed to work with him.
According to Zheng, he was angered by Cao's indifference to victims of the Yushu earthquake. Cao organized no charity events for the devastated area, and took part in a personal promotion event for his newly released book two days after the quake. But anonymous sources told Beijing News that Cao and Zheng are rivals and Zheng may not be telling the full truth about why he resigned.
Zheng's fairy tale series Pipilu and Luxixi was a best-seller among China's post-80s generation.
